Colour is a power which directly influences the soul

We’re talking about colours today! Now we all know that colour can affect our emotions. For example, yellow is uplifting and happy. Red gives a boost of energy. Blue can calm and soothe. Annie Sloan herself has long been a champion of how colour can transform. She says, “Colour is all about joy. It is a deeply personal thing to choose a shade of paint.”

No prizes for guessing what our favourite colour is here at Big Blue Trunk! We love blue, in all shades and for all seasons!

We love calming blues, like Louis Blue and Upstate Blue from Annie Sloan’s new Satin Paint line. These shades of blue are a wonderful alternative to neutrals. They calm and soothe and really make you feel welcome when you step into your home.

Then there are happy, energetic blues like Giverny and Greek Blue.

Giverny is named after the village in Northern France where Claude Monet lived, and is a cool and brilliant blue. It gives off a cheery effect on this little side table below.

The wicker chair is painted in Greek Blue (with some stripes in Old White). Doesn’t this colour evoke the blue skies and sea of Santorini? Greek Blue is after all inspired by the hue found throughout the Mediterranean.

Finally there are elegant and grown-up blues like Cambrian Blue and Oxford Navy.

Cambrian blue is a cool-toned steely blue. Its name references Cambrian clay found in Northern Russia. This shade has light-reflecting grey pigments and will go with everything!

Oxford Navy is a strong, handsome colour, partly inspired by indigo blue dyes used in tradtional Indian textiles and the inky blue of Oxford scholars’ fountain pens.

These colours are so effortlessly understated, yet strong and classic at the same time. They will definitely make a statement in your home.

We hope you’ve enjoyed and are inspired by this little overview of some of our favourites blues in the Annie Sloan range!
