About Alpana Ahuja:
Alpana started her career in India as a freelancer dabbling in multiple mediums. Since her move to Singapore in the year 2000, she has stuck to the fine arts and is an illustrator of 18 children's books, a nature and wildlife art teacher and activist, as well as a life member of Singapore Art Society and Group 90.
Championing her love for wildlife and animals through her art, she is recognised for her elephant 'Padhchinh' (Sanskrit for 'footprint') paintings since 2013. Her animal-themed works are consciously driven, giving a voice to and personifying wildlife to spread awareness and generate conversation on issues such as poaching, illegal wildlife trade, animal entertainment and chaining.
Alpana's expression is through watercolors, acrylics and oils. Canvases, wall murals, fabrics, and soft furnishings are her playground. She believes that working in a single medium is restrictive to her artistic process. Each cause manifests in its own individual style.
Alpana is a board member and volunteer wildlife rescue warden with ACRES (Animal Concerns Research and Education Society Singapore), and Nature Society Singapore, with whom she conducts Art in The Park. She also collaborates with bodies like NParks to initiate art and zero waste events, like Pesta Ubin. Alpana also supports Wildlife SOS India, an NGO that works towards rescuing abused bears and elephants. Formally trained in Textile Design at the South Delhi Polytechnic for Women, India, she also holds a certificate in Western Art from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore.
