"I lived in the US for a year when I was a young child and I leant about racial inequality. It was years later when I was a student studying in Manchester that I joined the Anti Apartheid movement and regularly took buses down to London to attend rallies. Rosa Parks was named the ‘mother of the freedom movement’ many years earlier and to me, has remained an iconic figure representing racial equality. Her courageous act of refusing to give up her seat on a bus for a white man when ordered to got her arrested. A bold reminder of how hard times were then but sadly, also a reminder that racial inequality and systemic racism still exists now," Jane Foster.
